Endeca Shortlisted as One of Top Search Vendors by Leading Market Research Firm

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – September 21, 2009 – Endeca Technologies, Inc., a search applications company, announced today it has been shortlisted as a top search vendor in exploring new unified information access architectures that combine information retrieval and database features in a single hybrid architecture. According to a new report released by IDC, Endeca is recognized for selling its full platform that is used for building custom applications, as well as in the creation and sales of search-based applications. In the report, entitled “Worldwide Search and Discovery Software 2009-2013 Forecast Update and 2008 Vendor Shares,” IDC noted that the search market’s strong growth exceeds the performance of the general software market considerably. Overall, IDC estimates that the search and discovery market grew 19 percent in 2008 to $2.1 billion, with accelerating growth expected through 2010.

“Endeca’s particular strength is in creating access to semi-structured data, and in providing the tools to visualize and analyze it,” said Sue Feldman, vice president for search and discovery technologies research and the author of the report. “As such, IDC considers Endeca among the leaders in exploring new unified information access architectures that combine information retrieval and database features in a single hybrid architecture.”

Endeca’s growth is punctuated by the launch of the McKinley release of the Endeca Information Access Platform in March of this year. McKinley, which boasts a re-engineered engine that capitalizes on multi-core processors from chipmakers such as Intel, replaces traditional search engines that make building search applications too costly or difficult. By complementing traditional enterprise applications, McKinley lets users search, sort, filter, and analyze large volumes of diverse and changing data from across the enterprise. “Search-based applications will proliferate and flourish as the search and discovery market moves from emerging to mature,” according to IDC’s report.

“Our strong growth clearly demonstrates that the market is responding to our vision, innovative products, and strong focus on customer success,” said Jason Purcell, senior vice president of marketing and product management, Endeca. “The Endeca commitment to deliver demonstrable enterprise value is continuing to drive our momentum in the marketplace. This commitment and momentum has been reaffirmed by leading industry analyst firms such as IDC, recognizing our passion to see that our customers succeed.”
