CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - July 22, 2010 - Endeca Technologies, Inc., a search applications company, today announced the launch of the Endeca User Interface (UI) Pattern Library. One of the first pattern libraries of its kind, the Endeca UI Design Pattern Library provides visitors with detailed user interface best practices for designing effective and innovative online search and discovery experiences. The library features a growing set of UI design patterns, illustrated by Endeca implementations, as well as other external applications. Users also have the ability to contribute via comments, dialogue, feedback, and submission of problems and ideas, in an effort to provide the most compelling, and up-to-date content to the community.
"Designing for search and discovery is surprisingly difficult," said Peter Morville, author of the new book Search Patterns and president and founder of Semantic Studios. "That's why I am so excited by Endeca's decision to share repeatable solutions to common problems in the form of a pattern library. This will be an invaluable resource for information architects and user experience designers around the world."
The Endeca User Experience (UX) team has been developing and applying discovery UI design patterns for the past three years based on lessons learned through research and design experience and hundreds of Endeca implementations, but has only been able to share this first-hand knowledge with customers and partners by way of direct training and project engagements. By allowing the public to access their work through the Endeca User Interface Design Pattern Library, the team can share and exchange best practices with a much broader community. The pattern library serves as a forum for open dialogue between all users, thereby allowing the Endeca UX team to continually grow and develop the library based on the insights and feedback of the community.
"Enabling information visibility and discovery through a unique user experience is the core value of Endeca's technology," said Mark Burrell, vice president, worldwide lead for user experience at Endeca. "The Endeca User Interface Pattern Library reflects our dedication to developing, sharing, and growing best practices for solving discovery problems and enabling people and organizations to easily find, explore and analyze information. We hope the library contributes to improving online search and discovery experiences and accelerates the growth of community knowledge and UI innovation."
