Steve Papa, Chief Executive Officer
Steve founded Endeca in 1999 to use innovative technology to solve a long-standing class of business problems that stem from information overload. He has since led it to become one of the fastest-growing software companies in the world, with five consecutive years of more than 100% revenue growth. Prior to Endeca, he was an early team member of Inktomi, the pioneer in large-scale parallel web search, and worked at Teradata, the world leader in large-scale structured data warehouses.
Steve holds a B.S. in Operations Research and Economics from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Dan Demmer, President and Chief Financial Officer
Since Dan joined Endeca, he has played a key role in driving the company to achieve record revenue growth and profitability. He has more than 20 years of leadership experience in corporate finance and management. Prior to Endeca, Dan served as CFO of IONA Technologies, a high-growth, profitable public software company specializing in application integration solutions. Dan previously held a variety of leadership positions at Digital Equipment Corporation, including assistant corporate controller.
Dan holds a B.S. in Finance from the University of Maryland.
Adam Ferrari, Chief Technology Officer
Adam was the original developer and chief architect of Endeca's core MDEX Engine™ technology, and as CTO he continues to be an active architect of and contributor to Endeca's Information Access Platform. His research at Endeca has resulted in nine patent-pending inventions covering advanced information retrieval, index structures, and data analysis. Prior to Endeca, Adam was a principal architect and developer of the Legion grid computing platform, which was subsequently acquired by Sybase. His academic research background spans areas in distributed computing, including heterogeneous systems, multithreading, and programming environments for HPC applications.
Adam holds a B.A. in Physics from Cornell University, an M.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Emory University, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Virginia.
Keith Johnson, Senior Vice President of Product Development
Keith has played a central role at Endeca since the company's founding. As a member of the original development team, Keith was an inventor of Endeca's core technology, and as SVP of development, he continues to guide the evolution of Endeca's Information Access Platform. Prior to Endeca, Keith held positions at i2 and ALK Technologies.
Keith holds a B.S.E. in Civil Engineering and Operations Research from Princeton University.
Jason Purcell, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Product Management
Jason spearheads Endeca's global marketing and product management organizations, responsible for core product marketing, strategy, and messaging. Jason's earlier roles at Endeca included leading the technical sales organization and establishing new product initiatives. Prior to Endeca, Jason held positions at Parametric Technologies in the US and Japan.
Jason holds a B.Sc. in Biological and Engineering Sciences from Washington University.
John Kelleher, Senior Vice President and General Counsel
John is the former co-founder and vice president, legal affairs and strategic development, of Zinio Systems, a technology and services company that produces, delivers, and supports digital magazines. At Zinio, John guided the company through its early growth and development, managing legal strategy, including technology licensing and intellectual property. Prior to Zinio, John was an attorney in the Boston office of Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Glovsky & Popeo, P.C., a national law firm. Before attending law school, John served in the United States Navy as a lieutenant aboard the USS Germantown and was deployed to the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Shield/Storm.
John holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a J.D., Magna Cum Laude, from Boston College Law School.
Jeff Murphy, Senior Vice President, Global Sales
Jeff has more than 25 years of enterprise software sales leadership experience, having held executive roles at companies such as SAP, Oracle, Storage Networks, and Yantra. At Yantra, Murphy was the executive vice president of sales and services and led a team that doubled annual revenue -- spearheading the company’s successful efforts to create the synchronized order fulfillment category in the retail and manufacturing industries. At Storage Networks, Jeff was the senior vice president of sales leading the company from it pre-customer stage to more than $120 million in recurring revenue and its successful IPO. During his tenure at SAP throughout the 1990s, Murphy had responsibilities for key industry verticals and was one of the top six sales executives of SAP America leading a team responsible for more than $400 million in annual sales.
Mark Riggs, Senior Vice President of Worldwide Customer Solutions
Mark oversees Endeca's consulting practice, internal and external education, support, and customer-care teams. He was previously at Business Objects, where he was vice president of global services, first for North America and then for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. During his five-year tenure, he led the consulting and training divisions in these regions to support the company's transition from products to enterprise solutions, increasing global-services revenue from $40 million to more than $250 million. Prior to Business Objects, he held leadership positions with Cambridge Technology Partners and Electronic Data Systems.
Mark attended both Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Northern Arizona University and holds a B.S. in Computer Information Systems, Magna Cum Laude, from Northern Arizona University.
Bob Hoyt, Senior Vice President of Strategic Alliances
Bob drives the strategic direction of Endeca's business development and strategic alliance efforts. As a veteran of partner-oriented organizations, Bob is responsible for key partnerships with technology, content, and global services providers. Prior to Endeca, Bob served in executive leadership roles at Axentis, Dirig, and SSA.
Bob holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Paul Sonderegger, Chief Strategist
Paul leads Endeca's efforts to evangelize the benefits of information visibility and its impact on competitive advantage. Before joining Endeca, he spent six years as an analyst at Forrester Research, focusing on search technology and experience design. Paul's investigations into search included deep dives into information-retrieval theories and technologies; examining these through the lens of user experience showed which ones actually help people discover what they're looking for. Paul published numerous reports on these topics and helped hundreds of executives at Global 2500 firms apply research to solve real business problems. Prior to Forrester, Paul worked at Strategic Interactive Group (now Digitas), where he helped clients set business objectives for online initiatives and translate those goals into technical requirements for development.
Paul holds a B.A. in English from Wake Forest University.
Matt Eichner, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development
Matt leads Endeca's strategic initiatives and corporate partnership activities. Prior to Endeca, Matt directed elements of a corporate-wide restructuring at Net2Phone while managing a product division. He also co-founded software startup iKena (acquired by Net2Phone) and previously consulted on technology merger and acquisition strategy while at Broadview (now part of Jefferies Securities).
Matt holds a B.A. in Economics from Yale University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Steve Walske, Chairman
Steve Walske served as chief executive officer of Parametric Technology Corporation from 1986 to 2000, as it grew into one of the largest software-only companies in the world, with more than $1 billion in revenue. Steve led PTC through 40 consecutive quarters of earnings and revenue growth as he took the company from its start-up phase, through its initial public offering in December 1989, to its position as the market leader in mechanical design automation software.
Steve holds an undergraduate degree from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Michael Porter, Chair, Strategy Committee
Michael Porter, the world's foremost authority on competitive strategy, is the Bishop William Lawrence University Professor based at Harvard Business School. He has authored 17 books, including the renowned 1990 book The Competitive Advantage of Nations, and more than 125 articles on competitive strategy and the competitiveness and economic development of states, nations, and regions. He advises CEOs and heads of state from around the world.
Michael received an M.B.A. with high distinction from the Harvard Business School, where he was a George F. Baker Scholar, and a Ph.D. in Business Economics from Harvard University.

Edwin Gillis, Chair, Audit Committee
Over the last 15 years, Edwin Gillis has been the chief financial officer of three of the 20 leading publicly traded software companies in the world. Most recently, he was executive vice president and CFO of Veritas Software, where he was responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company's financial management, control, reporting, planning and investor relations. Prior to Veritas, he was executive vice president and chief financial officer of Parametric Technology Corporation and chief financial officer of Lotus Development Corporation.
Edwin, a CPA and former partner at Coopers & Lybrand, holds a master's degree in International Relations from the University of Southern California, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Felda Hardymon, Chair, Compensation Committee
Felda Hardymon is a venture partner at Bessemer Venture Partners and professor of management practice at Harvard Business School. Over a career of more than 20 years at BVP, he has invested in young companies in the software, communications, and retail sectors, including American Superconductor, Cascade Communications (acquired by Ascend), Celcore (acquired by DSC), Parametric Technology, the Sports Authority, and Staples. He previously worked at BDSI, the original venture subsidiary of General Electric Corporation. Prior to that, he taught mathematics and served as director of systems and research at Duke University.
Felda holds a B.S. from Rose Polytechnic, an M.A. and Ph.D. from Duke, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Richard A. Charpie
Richard A. Charpie is the managing general partner of Ampersand Ventures, having founded the firm in 1988. Rick has more than 25 years of private equity experience. He has served as a director of more than 35 companies and as chairman of more than 10.
Rick holds an M.S. in Physics and a Ph.D. in Economics and Finance, both from MIT.
Joel P. Friedman
Joel Friedman was president of Accenture's Business Process Outsourcing organization until his retirement in 2005. He was responsible for overseeing Accenture's portfolio of BPO businesses as well as fueling new innovation and growth in BPO. He was a member of Accenture's board of directors until February 2005. Over the course of his 34-year career with Accenture, Friedman held a variety of senior leadership roles. He was a partner in Accenture's Corporate Development organization, served as managing general partner of the company's venture capital business, Accenture Technology Ventures, led Accenture's banking and capital markets industry program, and was instrumental in founding and managing Accenture's strategy consulting practice. Joel is also a member of the board of directors of SVB Financial Group (and Silicon Valley Bank), NeuStar, and the advisory board of FT Ventures. He also serves on the boards of directors of Junior Achievement of the Bay Area and Community Gatepath, a Northern California nonprofit agency serving adults and children with disabilities.
Joel holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Yale University and an M.B.A. from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
